Job Overview
Fitan Limited is seeking an experienced Research Director to lead high-impact philanthropic research projects. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact in low-income countries by identifying cost-effective ways to channel philanthropic funds towards solving pressing global challenges. This remote role allows for flexibility in location, with a requirement for occasional travel to field sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Cost-Effectiveness Research
- Conduct in-depth research to determine the most impactful use of philanthropic funds in low-income countries.
- Perform meta-analyses, review existing studies, and consult with sector experts.
- Engage with on-the-ground programs to validate findings through practical, field-based research.
- Synthesize and Communicate Findings
- Translate research findings into actionable insights, identifying what strategies are most effective and scalable.
- Evaluate and recommend organizations capable of handling significant funding to achieve desired outcomes.
- Identify Key Bottlenecks and New Opportunities
- Pinpoint critical challenges in areas such as poverty, disease elimination, and climate action.
- Propose nonprofit solutions, such as targeted R&D or strategic investments, to address these issues and accelerate impact.
- Generate Clear, Succinct Written Outputs
- Prepare concise, high-quality reports that translate complex research into easily understood recommendations.
- Topics may include strategic questions like “Which countries should prioritize dengue fever elimination?” or “Do literacy programs create long-term benefits?”
- Support Philanthropists in Decision-Making
- Provide customized research to aid philanthropists in developing effective giving strategies.
- Collaborate with team members to refine research approaches and meet project goals.
Requirements
- 10+ Years of Relevant Research Experience: Extensive experience in decision-driven research, ideally in economics or quantitative social sciences, with a focus outside of academic research.
- Background in Global Development: Prior experience with research in global development is highly desirable.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to distill complex data into clear recommendations.
- Travel Flexibility: Open to up to 10% travel time for field-based research.
